Just when you think Kage Baker can't get any twistier, she goes and proves you wrong. I'm not sure I've ever read a _series_ involving time travel on such a scale, and this latest book turns the narrative timeline into a piece of intricate cross-stitch. Lots of pay-off for the previous books, but one hum-dinger of a cliff-hanger at the end. The wait for "Gods and Pawns" is going to be for ever!

Amazon says January 23 for "Gods and Pawns"; Kage's page ( http://www.kagebaker.com/ ) says February. Either way, not all that long for the next book in a series, aside from how hard the waiting is when they're that good. I ordered my copy of "The Machine's Child" with the new Dick Francis book, which unfortunately won't be released until next week. Now I'm looking forward to getting them even more.

I've definitely waited longer for books...but rarely for ones that left the plot so in media res as it were. Of course, it's not like Baker hasn't done it to us before;-)
