I am now (or will be Thursday) the proud owner of a studio apartment. At long last, I shall sever that last tie to the paternal ones, never (one devoutly hopes) to return. It's a little on the high side for me, rent-wise; but the rent includes all utilities and cable. Even better than that, it's only 5 blocks from the bus depot, library and theater (all three are next to each other), and a supermarket is only about 10 blocks away and (opposed to the quad I was in several years ago), it's all flat and _not_ with a steep hill in the way. The bus depot has an express shuttle to Symantec in the mornings, so no more 25 minute bike rides in rain or freezing weather (I've needed to defrost my bike-seat the past few mornings). I could practically walk to work! (though I imagine I'll still bike...thus giving me precious extra minutes at home in the morning). And no more 30 minute bike rides home again from rehersal in the evenings either. Best of both worlds on both sides!

In case you couldn't tell, I'm rather pleased with all this. We'll take some time to move in _rationally_ (as opposed to "pile everything in a truck and unload at the other end, repeat as needed") and, with luck, will be taking up residence at the turn of the new year...a great time for a fresh start. I'll finally be able to get all my books out of storage and arrange them properly.

If only there weren't 25 people holding to speak with me _all_morning_long_, this day would be near perfection.

Woo-HOO! And cable, too! You are so doomed. *EG*

(I've needed to defrost my bike-seat the past few mornings).

You don't bring it inside? (Oh, right. We have the special crime rate.)

Hour-shuttle, I take it? Still, better than nothing.

Sympathies. Sometimes life gives you lemons. On the other hand, that's 25 chances to randomly say, "yeah, new studio, aren't I cool?"

I may also be recieving 6 months of high-speed just for signing the lease. Details have yet to be established, though.

I am _definitely_ spluring on a DVR, so I don't have to fiddle with VCR programming.

We're _very_ suburban/cul-du-sac farm out here. The city limit is less than a mile away. I park my bike next to the garage, in the back yard, so it's not in plain view. The "new" place as a special locked bike cage I shall avail myself to. I wouldn't park my bike unattended downtown _anywhere_. The one time I tried it with a non-u-bolt lock, it got stolen (day before a former girlfriend dumped me via email...quite the week).

Hour-shuttle, I take it? Still, better than nothing.

Actually, I meant "bike to the depot". I think the bus-ride itself is only about 15-20 minutes. It leaves the depot at 7:30, about the time I leave home...but gets to work about 5 minutes earlier than I do.

Fun with google Maps:

School very near my current home:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%223307+Honeywood%22,+Eugene,+OR+97408&spn=0.012823,0.040770&iwloc=A&hl=en

Where I work:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=555+International+Way+Springfield,+Oregon&iwloc=A&hl=en

Bus Depot/Library/Cabaret downtown:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=994+Willamette+St,+Eugene,+OR&iwloc=A&hl=en

Go over five blocks to the west on 11th, and that little cul-du-sac thing that pops up is the new place.

Those three maps triangulate my _entire_ life. It's a bit scary. ;-)

And thanks, btw, of making me realize that putting my _actual_ home address here might not have been the smartest thing. Hence the school reference rather than the home address itself (I'm just 60 seconds away from it).

On the other hand, that's 25 chances to randomly say, "yeah, new studio, aren't I cool?"

Somehow I doubt that anyone from IBM Canada really cares about that, so I think I'll keep it to myself. ;-)
