Major News!!
Dec. 13th, 2005 12:13 pmI am now (or will be Thursday) the proud owner of a studio apartment. At long last, I shall sever that last tie to the paternal ones, never (one devoutly hopes) to return. It's a little on the high side for me, rent-wise; but the rent includes all utilities and cable. Even better than that, it's only 5 blocks from the bus depot, library and theater (all three are next to each other), and a supermarket is only about 10 blocks away and (opposed to the quad I was in several years ago), it's all flat and _not_ with a steep hill in the way. The bus depot has an express shuttle to Symantec in the mornings, so no more 25 minute bike rides in rain or freezing weather (I've needed to defrost my bike-seat the past few mornings). I could practically walk to work! (though I imagine I'll still bike...thus giving me precious extra minutes at home in the morning). And no more 30 minute bike rides home again from rehersal in the evenings either. Best of both worlds on both sides!
In case you couldn't tell, I'm rather pleased with all this. We'll take some time to move in _rationally_ (as opposed to "pile everything in a truck and unload at the other end, repeat as needed") and, with luck, will be taking up residence at the turn of the new year...a great time for a fresh start. I'll finally be able to get all my books out of storage and arrange them properly.
If only there weren't 25 people holding to speak with me _all_morning_long_, this day would be near perfection.
