Dresden Files, episode 3
Feb. 11th, 2007 10:00 pmAll in all, a nice re-mix of "Fool Moon" (parts of it, at least), with the introduction of a potential re-occuring character. I had bought Harry's concern for Murphy in the body-swap episode, but they sadly appear to have zero chemistry, so this new face could be a necessary thing.
On the plus side, the drumstick tricks were pure magic. Nice, understated and completely without need of exposition. Ditto "I just dialed my nose up to eleven." Short, sweet, and extremely clever...especially when it didn't turn out to be a deus ex machina at all.
I do wish we'd been able to see what he was planning to do with the hockey stick, though.
The werewolves weren't amazing, but they were brief, the show didn't rely on that effect...and the transitional form was nicely done...again: relatively understated and dependent on the acting. Lycathropy isn't about going hairy, it's about about seeing people as food...and I think the actress sold that struggle nicely.
What truly makes an show, however, are the little details. Tonight's little detail was the coroner's T-shirt: "I [heart] Polka."
Everything after that was just pure gravy. ;-)
