It's the little things
Feb. 9th, 2006 07:01 pmSomeone of you may know this and for some of you, it's irrelevant; but it has been one of the niftier innovations I've discovered for myself in the last month or so:
Whenever I go to the bank to deposit a paycheck (an action that's yet to grow old), I pick up a roll of quarters and stick it in my coat pocket. Now I don't have to fuss with change machines and wrinkled dollar bills and I'm set for morning newspapers, the occasional soda at work and laundromats...especially since it takes 6-8 quarters just to do a single load. No fuss, no muss.
I'm probably inordinately proud of this little accomplishment, but for those living in a similar situation, I do reccomend trying it out. The convenience of 10 bucks worth of coinage on tap in the modern world is not to be scoffed at...and after the first day or two you even forget about the weight.

Walter Mathau, playing a typical '30s gangster part, punches his opponant, who staggers but doesn't go down. In surprise, Mathau opens his hand to look at the roll of coins concealed therein, and turns indignantly to his flunky, saying, "These are nickels; I told you quarters!"
"Nickels was cheaper, boss."
An alternate use for your what's in your coat pocket, should the need ever arise ( hoping, of course, that it never does ).
