Have I mentioned recently that I love books?
Well, I do. A lot.
Went up in the attic (I have one unit of shelving in my room at the folks' house) today to get down a series I found myself hankering to re-read and had to wade through 4 bank-boxes of novels to find them. It was glorious. I felt a bit like a prospector, sifting through ore, finding the occasional title I'd even forgotten I owned, and a bit like Scrooge McDuck swimming in his money bin.
Of course, when you're done swimming in the money, it's hard to settle down and read it. Hence: books!
I cannot _wait_ to find a place of my own (again! Finally!) so I can get everything _out_ of their boxes and back where they belong; on my walls. I want to take them all out, handle them, catalog them, organize them and then sit back and admire my textual wealth.
I'm starting to sound a tad obsessed, but it's all just so _satisfying_. I may have to visit the attic and shift boxes around more often.
...and for the record, it was the Rally Cry series by William Forstchen. Civil War Soldiers pitted again a cannabalistic Mongol Horde of Ogres. The rant about how no SF book can be quickly summarized in a non-silly manner will come later.
