Biked home from work today. There is something about a tailwind when you are biking. The road just unwinds effortlessly beneath you. I could have ridden for hours...presuming that I continued to head north. If it hadn't been dusk, I might have tried for the Canadian border (note: that would be two states away). I doubt it's like a runner's high, but there's still something exalting about moving over the land under your own power like that.

Saw "Sin City". Words fail me. My stomach almost failed me when Del Toro barfed urine. Other than that, though...wow. Just wow. I wasn't continually thinking "This CGI is cool!" like I was during "Sky Captain" (which I also liked...but in different ways for different reasons). And while everyone and their maiden aunt has been hyping the stylized cinematography and ultraviolence (yes. V. bloody film. Mostly (though not totally) B&W blood, but lots of it regardless. NOT A KIDDY-FLICK) I was equally taken by the characters and stories. We forget that Frank Miller isn't just an artist but a story teller...and a damn compelling one at that. Not a _happy_ one, but a compelling one. The stories grip you; as they should.

The one flat spot was Michael Madsen's performance. I agree with everyone and their maiden aunt that he couldn't have delivered his dialogue in a more stilted manner had he actually been on stilts! But the part was short and Willis definitely made up for it. I'd forgotten he could do more than pyrotechnic summer blockbusters. Mickey Rourke's character was still my favorite though.

Best scene-let: Stuka getting hit with the arrow. Cheesy as all get out, but I love incongrous humor like that. Funny, funny, funny stuff. The coup de grace was almost unnecessary.

And you're rarely see an opening and closing scene that more neatly wrap up a film. Beautiful work. I wish I could do more justice to the whole thing, rather than bouncing around with little fragments.

Oh, and finally, the exciting announcement that prompted me to post tonight.

TAGON MAY BE COMING BACK!!!!

It'll be a ret-con of considerable proportions, but I think Petey's return bodes well as precedent. Plus, what good is time-travel if you can't ressurect the dead (while saving the galaxy, of course.) It's still only a possibility, but I'm _definitely_ looking forward to this next story arc.
