Life Goals

herewiss13So last night I met up with my brother and some of his friends for their annual "life goal" party. It's cute, a bit like extended New Years Resolutions but much more ambitious, far reaching and often random. Everything from the sublime to the ridiculous with lots in between. Profound, absurd, whimsical and practical. Last year one of D's was to get me a life. It nearly worked.
After brainstorming for several hours, we all went to a gay/lesbian bar. D is gay. His 2 friends(women) and myself were not. This was also my very first time going to a bar as I'm not really much of A) a drinker or B) social butterfly.
Two observations:
1) Even sweet orange soda-type drinks do not disguise the burn of alcohol...not even when it's "supposedly" weaker than beer. D had me try a sip, sure I'd think it was just like Slice or something. The aftertaste was still awful and I am recommited to the teetotaler lifestyle. As far as I'm concerned, it's just like broccoli...why assault your tongue like that?
2) Loud, Dark, Crowded rooms are not my idea of a good time. Additions like a scrawny young man in a mesh shirt with a mullet don't help the matter. Neither do "wet boxer" contest where one of the contestants is wearing a thong (we'd just missed the earlier wet t-shirt content which I'd probably have enjoyed. ;-)). It's sad, because I otherwised _really_ enjoyed hanging out with D and his friends. Not sure exactly why we had to move from their kitchen table to the bar. It's not like we were lacking alcohol there.
...anyway:
1) Break the six-month relationship barrier
2) Come to terms with second tenor-dom
3) Join Male Acapella Group
4) Shake hands with an Orangutan
5) Join the DSL generation
6) Update website and LJ more regularly
7) Publish the damn fic
8) Go to more Cons
9) Crash at Ase's someday
10) Write notes/comments on my book margins
11) Join an improv troupe
12) paraglide
13) Figure out Dark Energy
14) Fly an Ultralight over the Amazon
15) Become an effective and Democratic Presidential Science Advisor
16) Learn to dip (i.e. Ballroom dancing)
17) meditate
18) Learn Origami as a form of relaxation
19) win at poker
20) Prospect for fossils in Vallis Marineris
21) Go Dromedary Racing
22) Immerse myself in kittens
23) Drive a moped...or a semi
24) Enter D, Dad and I in "Junkyard Wars"
25) Handle a Broadsword
26) Beat the Crap out of someone
27) Detonate a nuclear device
28) Figure out how to turn the goatee into a Van Dyke (probably impossible)
29) Bake Bread from scratch
30) Solo in front of a symphony orchestra
31) Stand on the nose of a leaping Orca (ala SeaWorld)
32) Move toward six-pack abs
33) Compose a piece of choral music
34) Go hawking
35) Converse with an AI
36) Go on a Blind date
37) Go caving
38) Rain on D's parade at some point
39) Find the Loch Ness Monster
40) Seed a cloud
41) See the Northern Lights
42) Learn to speak "Starbucks" just to figure out what the hell people are talking about.
43) Become fluent in HTML
44) Drive a tank
45) Pilot a "Deep Flight" submarine (the kind with wings, not ballast)
46) Learn the Words
47) Pet a marmoset or a small prosimian (i.e. loris or debauched potto)
48) Do Stand-Up comedy
49) Buy an Ant Farm
50) Teach a class on WWII
51) Find the G-spot consistently
52) Go camping, solo
53) Become a Science Populist
54) Orbit the moon
55) Build a lightsaber
56) Win a Karaoke competition
57) Verbally beat down a Creationist in public
58) Joust
59) Leave anonymous tokens of affection
60) Come to terms with the fact that all love is unrequited.
61) Blow Glass
62) Win a battle of the Puns
63) Hanglide with Condors
64) Orbit another star
65) Drive a team of oxen
66) Swashbuckle
67) Successfully impersonate a reference librarian
68) Swim with Humpbacks
69) Ride an Ostrich
