Sep. 13th, 2005 10:57 pmOh, the unfairness of it all! I just recieved "Academ's Fury" from the library, the second "high" fantasy novel by Jim Butcher (known for his Harry Dresden "Urban" fantasy). Then today Amazon delivered both "Wizards at War" by Diane Duane and "The Protector's War" by S.M. Stirling.
And now, I just checked, and the library is holding "Dance of Death", the latest novel featuring Agent Pendergast, famed from "The Relic" and other books (think an effete Southern Sherlock Holmes as an FBI agent with a truly depraved family tree...he's unique).
I _know_ they'll keep, but there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to read them all _fast_ enough.
*Despairs*
*Gloats*
*Despairs some more*
...in other news, the premiere of "House" was quite nice. Very pithy. I'm beginning to wonder if Prisions are the new Forensics Labs. "House" reminds me of a quote someone made about Richard Dawkins' book "The Selfish Gene." Something to the effect that it made the reader feel smart. There enough elite TV critics out there (some of whom I even read) that I don't want to declare, unequivocally, that "House" is a smart show, but I feel smart for watching it. And it _is_ a nice touch to have characters whose emotional and intellectual lives are so completely out of touch with each other. Most characters either have them in synch _or_ forgo exploring one or the other. But House and his little chickie are brilliant and moronic at the same time (well...the chickie is moronic..."House" is just pathalogically unavailable.).
Such a fun show. ;-)
