Gaff in Space
Aug. 2nd, 2005 07:50 amAm I a horrible person for having this mental image of the astronaut, floating by the belly of the shuttle, giving the gaffer tape-stuff a _tremendous_ tug...
...and then being surrounded by this floating cloud of black ceramic panels he just dislodged? It'd be like an episode of I Love Lucy: quick! Grab them before they get away! If we can stick them back on fast enough, maybe NASA won't notice!"
If it happened in RL, a tremendous tragedy to be sure. But I can't help but chuckling at the idea.
Actually...I tell a lie.
It wouldn't be a tragedy, it'd be a tremendous hassle. The shuttle wouldn't re-enter with a gaping hole in the heat shield so no one would die. Instead, you'd have 13(?) people stuck in a station meant for three, all re-supplied by Soviet technology.
I smell reality tv series, don't you?
