Things! Are! Happening!
Mar. 31st, 2005 11:13 pmI've been meaning to post about several sweeping changes to my line of late, and finally found myself the time. So here we are. (this is big!) :
First, we've wrapped up the extended run of "Beauty and the Beast" at the Actor's Cabaret. 8 weeks, 24 performances (my record before that was 6!).
June 4 we perform it twice more at the Hult Center...the city's giant performing art center (vs. the
100-person max dinner theater stage). Sharing the Hult Center that evening (on the larger concert stage) will be the cast of "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" I'm told we'll share a dressing room...I don't know if we'll actually come into contact with them. I'll bet anything Ryan Styles is shorter in real life. ;-)
In a few weeks I've been asked to join the _next_ musical at ACE. It's called "Oh Rats!" and this will be the West Coast premiere. If Jack Benny and Mel Brooks teamed up to re-tell the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin...it _might_ look something like this show. The writer is apparently coming out to work with us so it ought to be really good. I don't yet know which role I'll have (almost certainly minor), but the director _did_ ask me if I could grow a beard. Should prove interesting.
In other news, I HAVE A JOB!!! That's right, someone actually hired me. To repeat: JOB! As of Monday, I'm now a proud employee of Symantec. 40 hours a week, health benefits, vacation, the works. It's an actual occupation, not just some job thing. I'm in Enterprise Support Administration, so when businesses call, I transfer them to Tech, Support or Licensing (assuming they have a support contract). The learning curve is...steep, but I'm climbing steadily. Tomorrow (friday) I answer the phone for the first time.
On the relationship front my beloved is moving away:-( About an hour away. This means I will have to bus up every Saturday morning to see her and then bus back down Sunday evenings. Fortunately, I have a salary now, so this remains feasible. Between work, theater and weekend commutes, though...I'm not sure how much time will be left for _me_! It's going to be hard to strike a balance, but I'm determined to try. I'm not willing to give any of those things up unless I absolutely have to (in which case, sadly, the stage will be but on hold).
...and that's my life. Many changes very quickly, but most for the best. For entertainment I'm re-reading KSR's "Mars" trilogy. Lots of little gems throughout...I wish he would write even more. ;-) Maybe fanfic... Sax/Ann or Nirgal/Nadia/Art :-P I've also DLed a Super Nintendo emulator and some games. It's a cheap and lovely way to waste time if you have the bandwith...though documentation is rather hit-or-miss. ;-)
Oh, and now that I'll be online all day, with slow-spots between phone calls, it might be that I'll post more often. I'll certainly have the time. Of course, I've talked about posting more regularly before, so we'll just have to see.
