For some reason I haven't been compelled to chime in lately. Probably a mixture of boredom, depression and dating (not mutually exclusive) that have either eaten up my time or left me with little interesting to say. Television has been good of late, but not incredibly noteworthy.

So why am I logging on today?

Because this weekend, I had an adventure!

More to the point, I had a real adventure, which is something terribly happening to other people, far away.

Those people were my parents, the terrible something was their truck (pulling a fifth wheel trailer) breaking down and the far away place was Grants Pass, about 3 hours south of here on I-5.

Guess who had to go get them Sunday? At night...in the rain...

And I don't do a great deal of driving at the moment, so it was extra special. Especially sleeping overnight, in the 5th wheel with my folks and then driving back up this morning.

Turns out someone had filled the diesel tanks with gas. This is, for future reference, a major no-no. There may be engine damage. The good side: the gas station will likely pay for it. The bad side: I've got to go down again on Thursday night with my Dad so we can collect all the other bits and pieces (truck & trailer) abandoned there this morning.

::sigh::

All this and the predictable Valentine's Day loop-de-loop where we go from mucho intimacy to no intimacy and I'm left without even a legitimate outlet for my frustrations (mental frustrations, I might add). Another extra-long story I'm not quite sure I need/want to get into. )

Bleh.

In other news: "Shanghai Knights" is not as good as the original. There are amusing bits, but the overall theme/cliche just doesn't work. "Shanghai Noon" was 'martial arts in the old west' and that worked quite well. "...Knights" is supposedly 'cowboys in Victorian England...with some martial arts', but that's not really what happens.

OTOH, I thought "Daredevil" was quite a bit better than most reviewers would admit. It was much darker than Spiderman, but worked well. I don't read as much Daredevil as I do Spiderman, but it actually seemed closer in spirit to the comic book than the Spiderman movie was. Toby Macguire did a lovely Peter Parker, but his Spiderman was far too quipless. There needed to be more banter, if only self-disparaging snarkiness as Parker tries to deal with the absurdity of being a superhero. In costume, the movie character was too quiet and too stoic. The real one was glib as he bounced around.

...but I'm seriously digressing.

Finally, why the hell can't I update the stupid website? I love it. I love the surge in hits we got after the first update, I love the feedback we recieved from notified authors, I love the fact that we have actual content this time around, original and not stolen from other rec-sites. But I still can't seem to get my act together enough to write out all the little summaries, format it all into html and post the damn sucker. Argh!

So that's my life at the moment. Happiness admidst utter frustration...
