Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
May. 3rd, 2003 01:59 amI am pet sitting this weekend at a totally posh house stone's throw from the McKenzie River. Utterly gorgeous (if a bit far from stuff by bike), full cable tv and a cable modem.
I think I'm in love.
So far, I've managed to DL "The Matrix 2" in about 2 hours...maybe less.
...only it turned out to be "Office Space". I really hate mislabeled files, especially when they get in the way of my cheating the system.
Seriously though, we're talking 1 MB per 5 seconds. You've no idea how fast that is unless you live with a 56K modem at home. Seriously, it's like flying the frickin' Concorde after The Spirit of St. Louis!
It doesn't hurt that Hell's Faire, the latest Posleen Novel by John Ringo has come out and it features Sluggy Freelance, comic strips specifically written for the book.
It also includes the now standard Baen CD with about 20-25 books on it, plus Hell's Faire on mp3 files, some graphics and a bunch of other bells and whistles. I am so tempted to shoplift it...especially since you're already allowed to make copies and distribute at will. It's not like I won't buy the book anyway...eventually.
You really ought to go to www.baen.com and check out their free library if you have any interest in SF...really. It's cool and innovative at the same time! ;-)
So basically, riding high on all of this stuff, boosted further by finally seeing "Monty Python: The Meaning of Life" and living in a temporary state of denial about the impending catastrophe of my life. I'm not looking forward to that crash.
