GIP, Visage and Habeas Corpus
Jan. 17th, 2003 05:00 pmFirst off, a shout out to
ase for this lovely new icon of my dear departed dog. The epitaph I came up with looks a little more irreverent than I'd anticipated, but is true none the less.
Both my Angel and Smallville eps finally finished downloading this afternoon, so I'm almost caught up for the week!
Smallville: It started off as a guilty pleasure, but I really do like this show. Mostly because of all the mythos surrounding it and hovering over everything like vengeful ghosts. I also want to see Chloe happy, but that's probably never going to happen. Thank goodness for fic, eh?
Anyway, Visage may be soap-opera-esque, but they still do it well. And as my one analytical observation about the show: When Clark faces his double he is the one in red and blue! It's all those little touches, even when they sometimes get heavy handed, that make it such an amusing show to watch.
Angel: Alas, my tiny little DLed file didn't have the resolution to pull this episode off. It was waaay too dark, not enough contrast. When they finally got to the White Room (I loved that scene the first time around), it was like "Whoa! I can see complete bodies!" The whole scrambling zombie attack thing was lost on me because I couldn't see anything. The initial Beast Attack was probably really scary too, but just shadows to me.
Oh yeah: See you, Gavin. You'll be missed. Not!
I've been so thoroughly spoiled for this arc that I spent most of the episode going "Ok, let's move it along...more interesting stuff is coming down the pipe." But Lilah and Wesley were great, Gunn just needs to deal, finally and Angel's getting into the habit of throwing people out of the Hyperion far too much. I feel his pain, but there has to be a better way to sulk, right?
Trying to explain zombies to Connor was pretty cute, though.
Also, thank god I know Cordelia's an evil imposter, otherwise I just wouldn't be able to deal. Funny how Angel's imposter is being so much more subtle than Buffy's imposter. The First really stands out (at least to us) when it tries to demoralize from within. On 'Angel', I just thought the writers had gone insane. ;-)
Also, I'm really slow, so it wasn't until halfway through this ep that I finally put together the two thoughts "Cordy's looking a bit bustier lately." and "Charisma Carpenter has just had a child." Doh! I hate it when the obvious takes so long to manifest itself.
Now, go read
jennyo's LJ for a lot more deep thoughts on this whole thing, including some interesting parallels between Lilah's puncture and Cordelia's (the real one, from rebar, way back in Buffy s3).
And now, off to house-sit...in a house devoid of dog. I'm dwelling on this a bit, but after 12 years of companionship, I think I'm entitled. It's going to be Hell when the cat goes too.
